Responsible patients
Informed consent is the primary paradigm for the protection of patients' legal rights and which guides the ethical practice of medicine (Hall, Prochazka, & Fink. 2012). It is a WHO's document that every patient must sign before receiving any treatment. In fact, "an intervention in the field of health cannot be carried out unless the person concerned has given free and informed consent" (L.I. 28/03/2001, no. 145). It is currently the only means by which the patient can exercise his or her free will with regard to his or her own health. Considering that being healthy means making informed decisions about one's own health, informed consent becomes the instrument in which health promotion takes place.
